It is one of the oldest towns in the Country, settled by the Pilgrims in the 17th century. The town once included Fall River and part of Acushnet. Currently, the town is divided into two villages; Assonet and East Freetown. Freetown lies along old Native American Trails trails between Freetown and Boston. Freetown is home to the Freetown-Fall River State Forest a site within the so-called “Bridgewater Triangle” in which paranormal activity is said to take place including anything from UFO sightings to Poltergeists to Bigfoot-like Creatures. In 2006 there were reports of an emu walking throughout the forest. Source
